Wild Lockdown: New Arrivals From India

PIERA BERETTA 2020

There has been a report of a sighting of a golden jackal (Canis aureus) in Ticino, Switzerland. Golden jackals originate from Arabia, India and the Middle East and have been finding their way to Central Europe via Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia to Austria and Italy since the 1980s. So far, only single animals have been discovered in Switzerland, but there is evidence of a breeding population in Northern Italy.

I managed to photograph this beautiful pair in Bandhavgarh, India.
