Wild Lockdown: Collapse of Ecotourism

5 May 2020

The collapse of ecotourism as a consequence of the worldwide travel restrictions not only causes human tragedies, it also threatens the conservation work in many important ecosystems. The economic consequences have raised fears of a surge in poaching, illegal fishing and illegal deforestation, particularly in areas where communities heavily rely on ecotourism for their livelihoods.

I do hope there will be solutions for both humans and wildlife in these vulnerable areas.

I took this picture of a pride of lions (Panthera leo) watching and assessing these impalas (Aepyceros melampus) during a beautiful trip to Huhluwe-iMfolozi in South Africa.
